In may despatch No. 447 of the 13th ultimo, I had

the honour to forward my observations on a despatch: ad❤

dressed on August 8th by the Governor of Hongkong to the

Colonial Office regarding the Canton Kowloon Railway.

In reply to a request for his observations on the despatch in question, I have now received from His Ma-

jesty's Consul-General at Canton. a communication în

which he deals with the imposition of likin charges, the

claim for compensation in respect of the suspension of

traffic from November 7 to December 14. 1311, the rela-

tions between the British and Chinese Sections and with

the general conditions obtaining on the Chinese Section

of the lino.
